Kokua Viewer 3.7.27.35441 Released

The Kokua Viewer keeps improving for use on OpenSim grids, while keeping up with the latest code revisions and bug fixes from the SecondLife viewer.

Release 3.7.27.35441 brings Kokua to Second Life version 3.7.27, a Maintenance Release cohort, 3.7.26 Hoover Height cohort, and to RLV version 2.9.9. In addition a number of small issues for usability on grids with currency enabled and upload fees have been corrected. The update will also fix issues for the Linux viewer such as for flash playback and compatibility with webkit.

The update also includes the Hover Height Improvements Linden lab published in March.

The full details are in the Kokua/Imprudence Blog where you also can find download links and the full release notes.

This is a recommended update and possibly the best viewer you can choose as a Mac user in OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) on OpenSim.

Protecting your database with OS X Server adaptive firewall

If you are running your database or other critical systems on servers with OS X Server, it may be advisable to turn on the adaptive firewall.

The adaptive firewall helps prevent entry to your computer by unauthorized users over your network connections. OS X Server uses an adaptive firewall that dynamically generates a firewall rule if a user or an IP address generates 10 consecutive failed login attempts. The adaptive firewall is managed by the afctl command line utility. Certain IP addresses can be whitelisted with the afctl -w command, and you can add to the blacklist with the afctl -a command. Check the man pages for all options.

For how to enable the adaptive firewall and set it active also on system reboots, check this Knowledge Base article for the details. The KB shows you how to do it for OS X Server 10.7 through 10.10.

OS X 10.10.3 is out

After a long beta period of 6 releases Apple today issued the final version of OS X 10.10.3 where the biggest new feature is the Photos app to replace iPhoto. Photos is closely integrated with iCloud and iOS devices for a shared library of photos if you choose so.

We are seeing better frame rates in some of the viewers with 10.10.3, and the system feels more snappy in general.

The servers will be upgraded over the next few days as also OS X Server 4.1 is expected. Xcode 6.3 was released for download from the App Store with a significant upgrade to the Swift language to version 1.2. Check out the Swift Blog for details.
